Day 3 (Monday, 7/21/2003)

Knowing that we would be doing something strenuous on Tuesday, we decided to make Monday a sightseeing day and hit the touristy attractions on the southern end of Yellowstone NP. Brian had never been to Yellowstone, and I was looking to cleanse my palate of my last trip to the park, which involved such highlights as running out of gas after midnight in the middle of nowhere and nearly colliding head-on with a grizzly bear (long story.)

We set out fairly early and hit the park around 10 AM, which gave us time to make our way slowly around to Old Faithful by lunch. We arrived right after an eruption and had time to eat and do a bit of walking around the geyser basin before it went off again. After seeing Old Faithful, we did a bit more exploring in that area before making our way down the road. We spent the rest of the day making our way around the south loop, stopping at various scenic points of interest along the way and doing short hikes around the various stinkpots. By dinnertime, we had made it around to Lake Yellowstone, so we had dinner at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel before heading back south again to Jackson.
