Day 2 (Sunday, 7/20/2003)

Day 2 involved a bit of relaxing and recovering from the previous day's escapades. We hung around town most of the morning, and then in the afternoon we went whitewater rafting on the Snake River south of town. If you're ever in the Jackson area, I highly recommend the Small Boats, Big Action tour from Mad River Boat Trips. They pack you into small, 8-person rafts (mostly with other adults), so you can really feel the rapids. On our trip in particular, the Snake was running at a decent clip (7000 cfs), so the rapids were mostly intense Class 3's with perhaps one borderline Class 4. It was a terrific ride! We ended up on a boat with a family from Idaho Falls, and one of the other boats was full of defense attorneys who had a predilection for starting splash wars as well as using us as a mock jury on the bus ride home. The particular guide we had knew the river like the back of his hand (hey, how'd that get there?) and guided us into all of the best holes with maximum splashworthiness, and he even had us perform tricks with the boat such as spinning it around on end (which somehow caused everyone but him to fall into the 60-degree water.)
