After close to 4000 miles in 10 days, we returned to the
Texas Hill Country once again, making note of the apparent flood damage
and lush greenery resulting from the torrential rains that had occurred
while we were gone. We had seen so much that we almost couldn't
process it all (this web page is my attempt.) Looking back, I'd
have to say that it was my best mountain vacation yet. It
certainly lacked the "excitement" of having a psychopathic Internet
acquaintance tag along for part of the trip, having a flat tire in
the middle of Idaho on a Sunday, and nearly running out of gas in bear country at
1 AM (all highlights from Mountain Gathering '99.) My only
complaint was that I wish we could've spent 20 days seeing the same
places instead of 10, but surprisingly, we didn't have to rush through
it nearly as much as one might think.
