Day 7 (Saturday, 9/4/2004)

For many of the group, Saturday would be the last day in Alaska.  The weather had cleared somewhat, and it looked like some or all of Mt. Denali might be visible.  So almost all of the group wanted to try a flightseeing tour.  I wasn't one of them, due to my irrational fear of becoming the next Buddy Holly.  But while they were in the air, Jen and Matt and I drove up the road toward Healy to capture some photos of the Nenana river valley that we had rafted through the day before.

Upon the return of the intrepid flightseers, we all piled into the van for the 4-hour drive back to Anchorage.  Some of the group had flights to catch that evening, and others of us were scheduled to fly out the next day.  Those that remained went into town for sushi at Kumagoro and an after-dinner sunset stroll along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail.  Somehow, we ended up at Humpy's Bar & Grill watching a bad southern rock cover band before the evening was over.

Meanwhile, Jen rented a car and drove down toward Seward, where she would spend the next few days wildlife watching.  Thus ends my account of the trip, but the following pages contain Jen's photos from her extension trip.
