Fog clung to the surface of the lakes as we
awoke to our last morning at the lodge. After breakfast, we loaded up the
van yet again and headed east toward Cantwell. At Cantwell, we turned back
onto the paved road and headed north toward Denali, which would be our final
stop on the tour. Following a picnic lunch next to Riley Creek, we explored the
small visitor's center and then hiked to Horseshoe Lake, which lies just inside
the park entrance and is overlooked by the village of Denali Park.
After the hike, we returned to the McKinley Creekside Cabins and checked in.
Some ominous-looking clouds were forming to the south, but to the north was a
perfect rainbow. We had a late dinner and turned in, saving our strength
for our big day in the national park.
